How to Use Project-Based Learning

It is a great tool that can be used with many nutrition and food service-related topics. It allows the instructor to serve in the role of a facilitator, coach, and advisor.

Effective project-based learning incorporates these key elements:

-
Need to know: instructor teaches the key knowledge needed for the project.
-
Project is explained: what is the driving question/problem needed to be answered by the project.
-
Student voices, choices are honored: students make decisions about aspects of the project. They take ownership of their learning while working with a team in a hands-on environment. Students problem-solve, support, teach and learn from each other.
-
Feedback and follow-up: are provided by the instructor.
-
Publicly share information: students present their information to the entire class.
